The Butte Complex Fires

It’s been an interesting day and a half. I am currently working for North Tree Fire International as a ‘GIS Cowboy’ (my boss has a great sense of humor) on the Butte Lightning Complex fires. My first day was Wed, starting at 5:45am and running until 10:00am. Special thanks to Chris and Laura for letting me stay with them for my five hours of sleep before my current 16 hour shift today. It was a hard first day getting a feel for the situation, and I still don’t have everything wrapped around my head, but that won’t come for a few more days of work – too many things to remember at once. We will see how long this goes on…

  1. Thanks for the information. You are working hard; glad you did not have a long drive after work. Kudos to Chris and Laura for giving you a bed. You have to give yourself a chance – we know you will get this job under your belt in record time. The fires are here for awhile and the season is only just starting. Not good!

  2. Have just finished checking out the website on North Tree Fire International. This looks really demanding. Is there a probationary period on the job training. We are rooting for you. Love the pictures of Becky’s new car. Really nice!
